South Australia’s top 10 suburbs to watch in 2021

Househunters and savvy investors should keep a close eye on Walkerville, Echunga, Glenelg North and Happy Valley this year.

The four suburbs have topped South Australia’s list of areas to watch in 2021 after each recording more than 100 per cent growth in demand for houses over the past six months compared to the same period in 2019.

Walkerville’s average views per listing for houses on realestate.com.au jumped from 2538 in 2019 to 5778 in 2020 – a 128 per cent increase.

Echunga trailed closely behind after notching a 123 per cent increase, followed by Glenelg North (113) and Happy Valley (109).

“People are really rethinking their livelihoods – travel time is not such a concern for people anymore … and people are craving that extra space,” she said.

“The expansion of Mount Barker and the facilities there have pushed people out further too.

“Echunga is a really good up-and-coming area, we’ve seen really good growth over the past 12 months.”

Ms Hunt said buying in a sought-after area could prove to be a safe long-term bet.

“Buying a property that’s popular is always a good thing (because) it’s likely to be popular again when you sell,” she said.

Other suburbs to watch in 2021 based on an increase in demand included Panorama, North Adelaide and Malvern.
